Course Description:

Applied General Math covers all the fundamentals that will be a part of the rest of the math you will ever do. Understanding the building blocks such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division is key to being successful in all future math courses.

 

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course you will be able to do the following:

-Use Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division when applied to whole numbers, integers, decimals, and fractions.

-Volume/Surface Area/Perimeter of various 3-D shapes

-Understanding of Negative numbers

-Order of Operations

Classroom Policies/Expectations:

  • Be prepared for class by coming with appropriate materials
  • Participate
  • Be Respectful. Every student has the right to learn in a positive learning environment
  • Late work is accepted but only at half the original value

 

Class Rules:

  • CELL PHONES and HEADPHONES!!! Must be put away during lecture.
  • Food will be allowed in class ONLY if you keep the room clean and the trash in the trash!!!
  • Cheating will not be tolerated. If caught cheating student will receive a grade of a Zero and a Referral.
  • If you choose not to meet these rules and expectations, you are choosing to accept the consequences associated.

 

Consequences:

  1. 15-minute Detention
  2. 30-minute Detention
  3. Call/Email home to Parents
  4. Written Referral to the Administration

Behavior Policy:

Please refer to the Classroom Policies/Expectations and Rules. If you are violating any of these or the School Handbook Rules, distracting or creating an unsafe learning environment for yourself or others, then prepare to accept the consequences above or those consequences decided upon by the Administration/School Handbook.

 

Absences:

If you are absent, you will have the same number of days absent to turn in the missing work. The current work is due on the due date. Granting of an extension is left up to the discretion of the teacher.

 

We will be doing many in-class activities, alternative assignments may be provided for missed days.

 

Corrections: (Homework/Exams)

Students will have the opportunity to complete corrections on Homework for ½ credit back. This does not include Late Work.

 

Students will have the opportunity to correct Exams except for Post-tests and Semester Finals. The students can earn up to 20% of the original missed value of the question per exam.

 

For example, a student earns a 52%, if all corrections are completed correctly the student can earn a maximum of a 61.6% rounded up to at 62%.

 

The students may use any resource except for their cell phones/internet to complete test corrections. I.e. no Photo math, copying other students’ tests (counts as cheating), etc. You may ask me for as much help as you need to complete corrections as well.
